Guest DT Manjit: Pretty Cash Box and Vintage Flower Tutorial

Hello Crafty friends,

Avery lovely good morning to you all. Hope you all are doing fine.

Today in our Teaching and Learning Program we have Manjit Kaur Bhalla as Guest DT with her Coin box with pretty handmade flowers. She has a very beautiful step by step tutorial on Box and lovely flowers.

Over to you Manjit,

Hello friends,

I'm feeling super excited today while sharing my first ever step by step picture tutorial with you. Thanks to Rainbow Craftykari Team for giving me this opportunity. I'm going to show how I make these pretty cash boxes.

So let's start,

Step 1
First I made the base of the box. For this I have taken an Ivory sheet of 300gsm and cut out an rectangle of 16.25'' long and 13'' wide. Score it as shown in the picture.Dotted marks show were to score and darker lines show were to cut.

Step 2

I cut it according to the cutting lines with scissors carefully.

Step 3
Next I applied wet glue on the outer flaps and pasted them inside, this way all the four walls of the box become double layered and study.

Step 4
The base is ready.

Lets move on to the cover.
For the cover I have used the same technique as we use to make scrapbook cover. For this I have taken 3 chipboard pieces, out of them 2 pieces are of the same size i.e. half an inch longer and quarter inch wider than the bottom of the base. The 3rd piece is also half an inch longer and 1/8 inch wider than the height of the base box. I have taken all the 3 pieces and assembled and glued them on a ivory sheet as show in the photo.

Apply the wet glue on 2 sides of the base box and tacky tape on the edges as show in photo.

Before fixing the base box onto the cover I have tied an organza ribbon then I fixed it on the chipboard cover.

I hide the ribbon by gluing another piece of ivory sheet and pattern paper as shown in photo. Next glued pattern paper for whole box.

I have embellish the box using flower made by me using Joy craft die and rest other from my stash.

While arranging the flowers and leaves I always keep one thing in mind that the main flower should be the attraction of the items so it should be brightest and darkest then the rest of the embellishments. No other flower or embellishment should overshadow the beauty of the main flower.

The finished look of the box.

Vintage Flower Tutorial

Now its time for a quick flower tutorial. I will show you how I made that big flower.
For this I have die cut 6 flowers from 150gsm paper using the biggest die from Joy craft die. Then I sprayed some water on them.

I stacked all the 6 flowers and rubbed them directly on distress ink pad.

After rubbing all the petals the stacked flower will look like this. ( 1st image )
Now hold each petal and press towards the center. ( before that spray water if needed. By pressing the ink will spread. ( see bottom image )

After inking the stacked flowers, roll each petal over pen or marker. Holding the petal from both side gently pinch the petal, this will create veins in the petals. Repeat this procedure with rest of the petals but be careful while doing that because the petals are still wet so they might tear.

Separate all the flowers gently and let them to dry. After drying take each flower and press in the center using pen or embossing tool  so that the petals rise up. Then glue each flower from center and attach one over the another.

Press from the center to give 3D look and also give extra touch of color using ink applicator. Next add pollens to the center of the flower.

The flower is ready.
You can make such flowers using any flower die or flower punch.

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial.

Guest DT Pavitra: Magnetic Mixed Media Note Pad

Hello Crafty Friends,

A very Good Morning to you all.

Again we are back with our guest DT in our Teaching Learning Program  and today its Pavitra with her stunning Mixed Media note pad. Everyone think that Mixed Media is hard but Pavitra showed in this  step by step detailed tutorial that how to compose it and get the desired results in Mixed Media.

Over to you Pavitra,

Hello Everyone!

I am Pavitra here, and what a feeling to be on this platform and sharing my work with you guys, thanks you so much Rainbow Craftykari Team for this opportunity .

Today! I am gonna share a mixed media project with you guys.
So let’s get started …..

I had a magnetic sheet which I got with one of the die and was lying as scrap, so I thought of converting the little one into something interesting.

Firstly I sized a canvas sheet to the size of my magnetic sheet and pasted it on top of it with the help of heavy body gel.

Once dried properly I applied a goat of white heavy gesso and again left it to dry, you guys can off course use your heat gun to speed up the process.

After that I stamped the canvas sheet with various stamps using black archival ink, here in you can use any permanent ink and can also experiment with colors to add more interested.

After stamping it’s time to add some texture and for that I used modeling paste with a stencil.

For coloring my background I used distress sprays, working with them is super easy, quick and fun. I simply sprayed the distress sprays  directly on the surface and then sprayed water with a mister to let the color blend.
I left it to dry naturally and start working on my embellishments.

I used die cuts, stamped images and handmade blooms as an embellishment that off course shows how versatile dies and stamps can be, and how we can multi function with them. I die cut cardstock twice and stick the two pieces with clear glue to give it more strength and colored the edges with archival ink and later applied a coat of clear crackle paste.

Once dried properly I sponged walnut stain on the entire piece for the cracks to become visible, here in I would like to give a advance always leave your crackle paste or paint to dry naturally, never heat set them with your heating tool as you will not get the desired results.

For coloring my blooms I used archival ink red carnation and shaped them with my embossing tools as shown in the picture.

The yellow blooms are colored with archival ink saffron and also embossed the similar way, once I m done with all the blooms the dust them with diamond dust and clear glitter. I also used various leaf cutouts to compliment my blooms.

Finally I arranged my blooms on the magnetic sheet and also tied a twine to add more interest.

N
ow it’s time for finally assembly, I stamped a cage image and a sentiment with black archival ink and dust them with clear glitter for a shuttle shine.

And here is the finished project ready to be adorned in my room, since its magnetic it can be placed on any metal surface. I thought of writing some positive quotes on the pad and off course blooms are going to add on that only.
Some more close-ups

Hope you enjoy it!!!

Take care, keep crafting.

Guest DT Anushree: Learn Different Card Backgrounds Techniques

Hola Crafters, What's up?  Today in our Teaching Learning Program, Anushree will teach you about creating different card backgrounds. Anushree is been making cards and mixed media projects for more than a year. Her style is CAS cards and what makes her cards and mixed media projects in a unique way. She loves to explore different products and techniques to make cards, boxes, mini books and home decor. Without taking much time of yours let's move to the Tutorial.

Over to you Anushree
Hi everyone,
I am Anushree Vaish. Today I am really very excited to share this Guest Designer post for Rainbow Craftykari Blog. Thanks team for believing in me and giving me this awesome opportunity under Teaching and Learning program.

Lets get started, I have tried making this post detailed, informative and at the same time fun to try new tricks with same products. In this post I am using various stencils and Modelling paste in three different ways to create backgrounds for the cards on white cardstock.

My first background: I have used Crafter's Workshop Stencil Harlequinn, Modelling paste and Ranger Embossing powders to create this one (You can use any embossing powder of your choice). I have placed white cardstock below the stencil and used paper tape to fix it to my craft mat, this fixing is important as we don’t want the stencil to move while applying modelling paste to it. Once all set with fixing, I started applying modelling paste smoothly with the help of my painting knife, you can also use an old credit card/plastic card for smooth effect.

Once done with application of modelling paste, remove the tapes and stencil from the cardstock, now before it dries I have sprinkled gold embossing powder on some areas and dust off the extras, on the remaining areas of stenciled part I sprinkled pearl embossing powder, again dusting off extras as shown in pics. Now I have heat embossed the whole area with the help of my heat tool.

Awesome results,After this embossing powder melts along with modelling paste, the texture we get it super..its much thicker effect than using embossing powder with watermark ink.now I will start creating card with this background.I have used tacky glue (you can use any pva glue) to attach this background with base cardsheet. I have used vellum sheet and used same gold embossing powder now with watermark ink to create the sentiment. The final card will show in the end, till then keep reading.

Second background: This time I have mixed white acrylic color with modelling paste and applied over the stencil. Once the paste is dried, I have distressed the cardstock using three different colors.

Again I have used vellum sheet and hand cut the scalloped shape, This time for the sentiment I have used a die cut. Attached two same die cut to give volume to it.

Modelling paste generally dries off white color, this mixing of white acrylic has really enhanced the look of distressed portion as well. Stay tuned for how I have attached all these together, before that lets quickly see the third background as well.
Third background: With this one I have mixed distress ink with the modelling paste to make coloured modelling paste. after application of modelling paste, let it dry at room temperature. Modelling paste dries very fast.

The color looks really vibrant and beautiful, now for this card I have stamped the sentiment on white cardstock separately and fussy cut it. Also used few metal embellishments, made these flowers with die cuts and old novel pages after distressing them. Also I have used glossy accents to attach all this.

Now time to reveal my three beauties.
