Travel Watch Box inspiration by DT Vidhi

Hello Crafty folks,

How are you all? What’s happening?  Are you done with your planning for this summer vacation? Come summer and everyone is bitten by the wanderlust bug. As the travel is on cards, here I am, back again at Rainbow Craftykari blog with my DT Inspirational post dedicated to Travel.

Do you have any idea as to who travels the most? It's the “Postal Stamps”. Nowadays they
aren't in vogue courtesy the New Fast Technology ... Nostalgia associated with Postal
Stamps compelled me to reuse them. There is one more element closely associated
with travel I feel and it is “Time”. The trio of Travel, Postal Stamp and Time looked so disjointed. But on a closer look together they inspired me to create a Masculine Watch Box with decoupage.

Let’s hop on to the project:

I took a raw MDF Watch Box with 5 partitions inside and gave it a coat of white
gesso to prime the entire box. Next, I painted it with Chalk paint and covered
all sides of the box. Then I distressed all my postal stamps with distress
ink for a vintage look.

After that, I started applying Postal Stamps on the top of the box with Mod Podge.
This was a random arrangement. I purposely did not cover the entire portion with stamps. I left some place on one side to add more zing to it.

On the left side of the top, I stamped some post and travel related stamps with Archival Black ink. With this addition, the lid of the box was ready.

Then I covered the three sides of boxes with decoupage paper and decoupage glue. I
chose a world map paper to match the travel theme. I distressed all the edges of the box with Vintage Photo distress ink and the box was ready!

Last and most important, I covered all the sides of the box lid with masking tape
and applied a fine layer of resin. When resin dried completely I removed the
masking tape and smoothened the edges with sand paper. 

Postal stamps, time, travel and watch box….an adorable quartet!

Shadow Box Card Tutorial by DT Priyadarshini

Hello everyone,

Priyadarshini here with a Tutorial Post as a part of the DT for Rainbow Craftykari blog. I am here to show you a very simple and easy project - Shadow box card. The pictures may look a little complicated but its not.   There is a lot of scope to work here but I have kept mine simple. 

Here's a look at my card:

Let's start

1. Take a 12" x 12" card stock. To make it easy, I have marked them A & B.

2. Place the card stock on a scoreboard. The card is to be scored at 1",1 1/2", 2 1/2" and 3". This is on all 4 sides of the card stock. No need to crease the scored lines at this step. 

3. Note this step very carefully. To be marked only on sides marked A.

Make a mark, one inch from the last scored line and two more marks as shown in the picture below. 

4. Using a pen/pencil connect these points as shown in the picture.

The sections marked X are to be cut. 

5. Here's a look at the card stock after the sections are cut. (Only on sides marked A)

6. Now crease the scored lines and turn the paper over. 

7. Now its time for adhesives. Adhesives are to be applied on the outer part of the card stock. I have used double sided tape.

Turn the card stock over and apply adhesive as shown in the picture. This is to be pasted only in the last. Do not paste them before the last step

8. Start pasting sides marked B first. One side at a time. Remove the paper layer and fold the side as shown (half of the scored lines)

The fold will be facing the inside of the card

Repeat the same on the other B side

Now, push the folded sides out. This part makes it easy to fold and paste the other two remaining sides.

9. Repeat the same way of sticking these sides. If you see the picture carefully, I have the side adhesives still intact and yet to adhere them. 

10. This is the final step to make the shadow box. Remove the upper paper on all sides and push all the sides together in to create the box.

11. Score a piece of 12" x 6" card stock in half to create a 6 x 6 card.

12. To decorate my shadow box card, I used stamps from The Greeting Farm and Yours Next Stamp. I stamped all the images on ninah white card stock and coloured them using colour pencils. 

First, I used some yellow ink from hero arts to add some highlighting behind the mermaid and adhered the mermaid using double sided adhesive to give dimension. 

I used normal liquid adhesive for the rest of the images. I added some clear water droplets to give bubble effect. 

I kept the inside of the card simple as well. Just added a fish and a turtle with a simple sentiment from Yours next stamp.

• 12 x 12 card stock (any colour)
• 12 x 6 card stock
• Martha Stewart score board
• Pencil/Pen
• Ruler
• Adhesive tape & double sided adhesive
• The Greeting Farm stamp - Trishell (mermaid), Maisea (sentiment)
• Your Next stamp - Fishy fun
• Colour pencils
• Hero arts ink 
• Ink blending tool
• Scissors
• Clear water droplets

Spring Bird Cage Inspiration by DT Spardha

Hi guys!

Spardha here for today's inspiration post at the Rainbow Craftykari Blog. Hope you guys are enjoying the Spring Season, with the beautiful weather, flowers and the pretty pretty colours all around. 

Taking inspiration from the season, today's post will be a bit more "organic" {I know I can crack better jokes, I'm working on it!}

Today I have for you a beautiful spring-themed ornament made entirely with a sheet paper. These can be great centre-pieces for décor or out-of-the-box gifts. I will be keeping it at my craft desk as this season's mood-board.

To make your own birdcage, start by cutting a 3" circle from chipboard to act as a base. I covered mine with green felt fabric, but you can use paper or moss as well.

Cut a small circle for the top of the cage and stick four 1/2" strips of white paper to the centre of the circle cut-out. An easy way to make sure that your cage fits on to it's base is to wrap a 1" strip of paper around the periphery of the base and stick it's two ends so the circular strip pops out. 

Mark 8 points at equal distances on the circular strip and stick the ends of the 1/2" paper strip at each of these points. Let it dry and your birdcage is done!

Now all you have to do is unleash your creative cells and decorate it to your liking. I brought in a bit of actual nature in mine by using a dried stem as the main branch, using loads of paper flowers, fabric trims and bling to complete the look.

Journal Page using Gel Press Tutorial by Blog Coordinator Aditi

Hello everyone,

Aditi here today on the blog with a new post to inspire you all. Today I have a video tutorial for you all. 

Have you seen the colour palette of our April Challenge? It is so beautiful and with the Theme of Love in mind, I decided to create a Journal Page.

In this tutorial, I will be showing how to create a quick and easy background with the help of gel press. Although I have made a journal page, this technique can also be used for a card, or background for any project. 

I have interpreted the theme of Love as Love for Art, Craft and Journaling that is something so important to keep and keeps my days bright and joyous.
