Altered Diary Cover Inspiration by DT Saloni

Good Morning all you lovely crafters out there!

Saloni here with a new inspirational post today !! Today I have a Mixed media altered project again.

Why should the inside of your diary just be filled with pretty art, transform your diary cover with mixed media and simple techniques!

So, here's how it looked after all the hard work:

To begin with, I have applied a thick coat of heavy gesso and primed the surface. Next, I applied the fiber texture paste to it. To add some more texture, I have used a brick stencil with texture paste. Once dry, I started adding colours to it. To keep it simple, I have used just different shades of blue with a hint of white. It's such a beautiful colour strikingly soft yet stands out pretty loud. Further to embellish the diary, I have adhered some flowers, moss, metal charms. In the end , I have added a few art stones, frosting powder & created white splatter with watered down white gesso.

Here are some more close up shots...

Materials Used:

. Old Diary
. White heavy Gesso
. Fiber texture paste
. Modelling Paste
. Prima art alchemy waxes and patina paste
. Color sprays
. MDF Chipboard
. Flowers & Moss
. Texture sand
. Frosting Powder
. Tim Holtz Idea-ology Sticker

Most of the above -listed materials are available on the Rainbow Craftykari Store and can also be pre-ordered by sending an email at rainbowcraftykari@gmail.com.

Cinderella Jar- Inspiration post by DT Vidhi

Hello folks,

I am back on the blog with another Inspirational post!!! When you are surrounded by two little beautiful daughters, all you can think about is fairy tales and princesses !!! So this time I am inspired by Cinderella, her beautiful blue coloured dress, and sparkling glass sandals.

This is my first time altering a mini-object. It’s always difficult to alter a mini object as handling it is an issue and the space to be creative gets limited. I have still tried giving textures and put little elements on it. Hope you guys like it.

First, I took a ketchup jar and altered it for my mini project. I started with modelling paste, applied two to three textures through stencils on the Jar with a knife. Then I stuck small pieces of lace on it. Next, I covered the surface with white gesso.

Next, I randomly added mini and mega stones in soft gloss gel to give more depth to the jar. With the hot glue gun, I have tried giving a look of hanging flowers along with some small hearts and twinkling stars

I used texture paste to create a rough surface for the lid of the jar and as a highlight "a glass sandal " on the top. I took a toy sandal from one of my daughter's toys and gave a coat of white gesso. To make it look like a glass sandal, I added silver glitter on it. I used Lindy's magical shakers on the jar to give shades of blue colour, as Cinderella's Blue dress is quite tempting for little girls. In the end, I added some glass stones on the lid near the sandal to make it look like as it was winter and covered in snow.

Hope you guys like my project and it inspires you to try your hands on your very own alter mini project !!! The jar is even smaller than Lindy's Magical shaker bottle !!!  It's quite challenging but the whole process was fun.

  • Mini and Mega Art Stones by Finnabair
  • White Gesso

Zen-tangling- Inspiration Post by Blog Coordinator Aditi

Hello everyone,

Today, I have a very interesting post for you all. In art and craft, there is so much to be inspired from. In fact, in daily life, look around you and there is so much to take from the world. This inspiration then motivates us to achieve greater heights, and be better human beings.

With this in mind, I thought of inspiring you all with Zentangling or Zen Doodling. This is a fun, relaxing and calming way of creating beautiful images by drawing certain structured patterns. Simple dots, lines, curves, put together form these patterns called 'tangles'. There is a lot more to this, and you can always read up online about it.

To begin with, I'm sharing a few simple patterns and steps of drawing them.

Usually, these are drawn on small pieces of paper called 'tiles', that can be later assembled into mosaics. However, there are no limits in creativity. Hence, you can go beyond these tiles and tangle anywhere. To begin putting the patterns together, we begin with strings. Random lines, to divide an area into segments. Here I have drawn an ambiguous shape and then draw a few lines as my string. I have then drawn the patterns show above in each of these segments. See how the square grid is manipulated to fit in the required segment.

In this way, you can learn more patterns and create more designs. Below are a few samples of tiles with intricate patterns. Notice, how I've also introduced and played with colours.

This form has many therapeutic benefits as well. It is believed to have a positive influence on creativity, self-image, focus and problem-solving. Do read about it, and incorporate it into your daily activities as a 10-minute routine.

Materials:
  • Uniball Pens
  • Paper- watercolour if using colours like in the last tile; Ordinary Cardstock for the rest.
  • Fine Tip Markers
Most of the above -listed materials are available on the Rainbow Craftykari Store and can also be pre-ordered by sending an email at rainbowcraftykari@gmail.com.

Shutter Card Tutorial by DT Priyadarshini

Hi everyone,
I am on the blog today with a tutorial for you all. My project for today is a shutter card. It's easy and simple to make. This card can be used for birthdays, holidays, etc.. and is a fun card. Once you get a hang of how to make it, it is super fun.

Let's start:

PART 1 - SCORING AND PREPARING

Size of card stock (all in inches):

The base of the card (A) - 10 x 7

Shutter (B) - 4 1/4 x 3 5/8 (2 nos)

Center panel (C) - 3 3/4 x 7

1. Score the base of the card (A) at 2 1/2 inches on both sides and crease well.

2. Score the shutter pieces (B) at 1/2 inch only on one side (the 4 1/4 inch side). Score on both the shutter pieces. Crease the scored line well.

3. Open the creased line of the shutter pieces and mark 1 7/8 inch and centre the marking, do this for both the shutter pieces (I have marked how to mark from the edge in the picture)

4. Connect the ends of the card stock to the marked centre point and draw a thin line and cut this triangle out for both the shutter pieces.

5. The shutter is ready.

6. Take the centre panel piece (C) and mark at 7/8 of an inch from the top.

7. Place a circle die on the mark and die cut using a die cut machine. I used the Big Shot. I also embossed the centre panel (this is optional).

8. The final marking is on the base of the card. Mark 2 5/8 inch from the top and draw a line across.

PART 2 - ASSEMBLING THE CARD

9. Paste two pieces of white cardstock on either side of the base cardstock measuring  2 3/8 x 6 7/8 inch (to write a personal message)

10. Line the tip of the shutter triangle with the line (step 8)

11. Paste the shutter onto the base. Place the shutter and use double-sided adhesive on the upper part of the shutter.

12. Use a stamped image or a photo. I fussy cut my stamped images and adhered it to a piece of white cardstock measuring 4 x 4 inches.

13. Adding the centre panel to the card. Use double-sided foam tape for this step. I used a very thin strip of tape on the top of the card (shutter action does not get obstructed) and bigger ones below.

14. I used different images from the same stamp set and friend sentiment to complete the card.

Materials required:
  • Cardstock - Kraft, White or any colour
  • Mini remix happy stamps from The Greetings Farm - Images
  • Best friends from Clearly Besotted - Sentiment
  • Circle Dies
  • Big shot
  • Ann Griffin embossing folder (optional)
  • Martha Stewart Scoreboard
  • Paper trimmer
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Scale
  • Double sided tape, white glue or tacky glue

I hope the tutorial was useful and fun.
