Tea Coasters- DT Megha inspired by DT Priyadarshini

Hello everyone!

Hope you're having a great week and enjoying the month with rains.

I am here with a new inspiration post for Rainbow Craftykari blog. For this month's inspiration,  as you all know we have a twist in our inspiration posts, we are getting inspired by our very own Design Team.

My project is inspired by the wonderful artist, and a very calm person, Priyadarshini!

I went through her DT posts. All of these were far from my style of work, she is a brilliant paper craft crafter and artist.

Then I came across the creation that caught my attention when I saw her Tea Coasters. I Love the idea of the 3D effect, the pearls on this project and got inspired by this.

I started with preparing the coasters using gold shimmer paint and let them dry. I took flower sheets meant for Sospeso and fuzzy cut them and shaped them. I adhered these flowers on the coasters and also added dimension with pearls in the centre of the flowers and the coaster stand.

Dream Catcher- DT Priyadarshini inspired by DT Vidhi

Moving on to my today's inspiration post. I have taken inspiration from our design team member and my friend Vidhi Jadeja. She is an amazing crafter and you must check her BLOG. 

For today's post, I have made a dream catcher using an old embroidery hoop and used foamiran flowers. 

I was inspired by one of her cards made for the team last month. Check out that card HERE.

Materials required:

1. Embroidery hoop - 2 different sizes (can be made with one hoop)

2. Jute twine/cord (multicolour)

3. Hot glue gun

4. White pearls and colour beads

5. Feathers

6. MDF butterfly

7. Fabric glue/ white glue

8. Foamiran

    a) Flowers

    b) Leaves

    c) Pollens

    d) Styrofoam buds

    e) Iron box to heat the flowers

How I made: 

1. I took two different sizes of embroidery hoops and started wrapping them using jute twine/cord. I used fabric glue to stick the end of the twine to the hoop. (can use a drop of hot glue to secure the end of the twines)

2. Take twine and add pearls and beads and tie feathers to the end and secure with a drop of hot glue gun so the feathers don't fall off. 

3. Add these to the hoop using a hot glue gun. 

4. Made 3 roses using foamiran (yellow, pink, blue) and small flowers and leaves. Used hot glue to add them to the hoop. 

5. Added MDF butterfly with hot glue to the dream catcher.

New academic year with more challenges and lots to learn, I made a door hanger 'My Study Time'

DT Saloni- Everyone's school days have the memories they can cherish and treasure for life. When I think about School, it reminds me of all the fun I had.. We used to play our own created games and draw for fun. Similarly, I wanted to create something which can also be fun.  So I have created two different cards trying to incorporate few elements which will remind us of our school days. 

DT Spardha- Get nostalgic and back to school for June!

Here's to the best years of our life, learning and becoming the beautiful little individuals we are now.

DT Vidhi- Today I have created a small 6 by 6 Photo Folio inspired by the 'Back to School' theme. As a school stationery, I used Paper Pin or U pin as the closure to the Folio. This folio is inspired by all things school and all the elements take me back to my school days.

Quilled Magnets Inspiration by DT Priyadarshini

Hello everyone,

I am here with a new inspiration post for you all. Since May is a holiday month filled with summer camps and fun, my inspiration today will be quilled magnets. I started quilling a few years ago and have only enjoyed and loved it ever since. These magnets work best as a return gift. They are simple, cute, enjoyable and easy to make. There is no limit to using creativity when it comes to quilling. 

  

Introduction about Quilling: 

Quilling or paper filigree is a form of art that involves the use of strips of paper which are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is rolled, looped, curled, twisted and otherwise manipulated to create shapes which make up designs to decorate greetings cards, pictures, boxes, eggs, and to make models, jewellery, mobiles etc. The most popular and versatile technique is that of rolling. The paper strip is rolled in fingers or using a tool. The coil is then released and then glued at the tip and then shaped. These shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns. 

Materials used for making magnets:

1. Quilling strips 5 mm - different colours (3mm can also be used)

2. Quilling needle
3. Circle template board
4. White glue
5. Magnets (circle) 
6. Mod Podge or quilling varnish (one coat to seal)
7. Wired pollens
8. Googly eyes (optional)

I have made a couple of flower magnets along with different ones as well to inspire you with this art form of quilling.

Tea Coasters Inspiration by DT Priyadarshini

Hello everyone,

I am here with a new inspiration post for Rainbow Craftykari blog. For this month's inspiration, I am making 2 different types of tea coasters and I will be sharing the technique with you. 

TEA COASTER 1: Rhinestone Technique

How to make them:

1. Paint MDF coasters with desired colours and allow to dry

2. Start with applying glue on all sides and stick gold ball chain

3. Stick rhinestones/Kundan stones as per choice leaving enough space for the cup and allow to dry completely

4. Apply a coat of clear varnish to seal (on both sides of the coaster) and let it dry

5. Once dry, the coaster is ready to use.

Materials used:

• MDF coasters
• Paint
• Rhinestone/Kundan stones
• Gold ball chain
• Glue
• Clear Varnish

TEA COASTER 2: Heat Embossing Technique

How to make them:

1. Paint the coasters with desired colours and let them dry for 24 hours
2. Select stamp and use Mini Misti or Misti for stamping (Acrylic block can also be used)    
3. Rub anti-static powder tool 
4. Warm the heat gun
5. Use versamark ink to stamp on the coaster
6. Use embossing powder, I used white here and use the heat gun for embossing.
7. Let it cool for 20 mins and then apply a thin coat of clear varnish and dry for 24 hours
8. Coasters are ready to use

Materials used:

• MDF coasters
• Embossing powder - White
• Mama elephant Stamps - Cup of wishes (any stamp can be used)
• Mini Misti Stamping tool
• Heat gun
• Versamark ink
• Anti-static powder tool
• Clear Varnish
• Paint

Tips for Heat embossing:

1. Use of Misti: Some stamps do not stamp well and may require repeated stamping. Since we are using MDF here, to avoid errors while stamping its best to use Misti.

2. Use of anti-static powder tool: Embossing powders are sticky and tend to stick to the entire MDF. The powder prevents embossing powder from sticky all over the MDF and only to the stamped parts

3. Warming heat gun prior to use- embosses quickly. 

4. Embossing powder: If there are no colour or white powders available to you, you can stamp with colour ink and again stamp with versamark and use clear embossing powder

Must have embossing powders - gold, silver, clear - regular & gloss, white. For black use Versafine Black Onyx Ink and emboss with clear powder.

Shadow Box Card Tutorial by DT Priyadarshini

Hello everyone,

Priyadarshini here with a Tutorial Post as a part of the DT for Rainbow Craftykari blog. I am here to show you a very simple and easy project - Shadow box card. The pictures may look a little complicated but its not.   There is a lot of scope to work here but I have kept mine simple. 

Here's a look at my card:

Let's start

1. Take a 12" x 12" card stock. To make it easy, I have marked them A & B.

2. Place the card stock on a scoreboard. The card is to be scored at 1",1 1/2", 2 1/2" and 3". This is on all 4 sides of the card stock. No need to crease the scored lines at this step. 

3. Note this step very carefully. To be marked only on sides marked A.

Make a mark, one inch from the last scored line and two more marks as shown in the picture below. 

4. Using a pen/pencil connect these points as shown in the picture.

The sections marked X are to be cut. 

5. Here's a look at the card stock after the sections are cut. (Only on sides marked A)

6. Now crease the scored lines and turn the paper over. 

7. Now its time for adhesives. Adhesives are to be applied on the outer part of the card stock. I have used double sided tape.

Turn the card stock over and apply adhesive as shown in the picture. This is to be pasted only in the last. Do not paste them before the last step

8. Start pasting sides marked B first. One side at a time. Remove the paper layer and fold the side as shown (half of the scored lines)

The fold will be facing the inside of the card

Repeat the same on the other B side

Now, push the folded sides out. This part makes it easy to fold and paste the other two remaining sides.

9. Repeat the same way of sticking these sides. If you see the picture carefully, I have the side adhesives still intact and yet to adhere them. 

10. This is the final step to make the shadow box. Remove the upper paper on all sides and push all the sides together in to create the box.

11. Score a piece of 12" x 6" card stock in half to create a 6 x 6 card.

12. To decorate my shadow box card, I used stamps from The Greeting Farm and Yours Next Stamp. I stamped all the images on ninah white card stock and coloured them using colour pencils. 

First, I used some yellow ink from hero arts to add some highlighting behind the mermaid and adhered the mermaid using double sided adhesive to give dimension. 

I used normal liquid adhesive for the rest of the images. I added some clear water droplets to give bubble effect. 

I kept the inside of the card simple as well. Just added a fish and a turtle with a simple sentiment from Yours next stamp. 

Materials: 

• 12 x 12 card stock (any colour)
• 12 x 6 card stock
• Martha Stewart score board
• Pencil/Pen
• Ruler
• Adhesive tape & double sided adhesive
• The Greeting Farm stamp - Trishell (mermaid), Maisea (sentiment)
• Your Next stamp - Fishy fun
• Colour pencils
• Hero arts ink 
• Ink blending tool
• Scissors
• Clear water droplets
