Quirky Gifts Tutorial for the Festive Season by DT Anila

Hello, Friends!

I am Anila Dikay and am so happy to be joining the Design Team of Rainbow Craftykari for a new term.

I am back on the blog with my very first Tutorial post for this term.

Raksha Bandhan is just around the corner and all are busy with the last minute preparations, gifts etc.

For all those who haven't purchased the perfect gift for your Brother/Sister yet...
How about some DIY gifts with some personal touches to it..?
I am sure your siblings will love them and so will you.

Today in this Teaching and Learning program I am here with two DIY gifts with detailed tutorials for them.
Friends, This is going to be a long and a picture heavy post, but hopefully, you will enjoy it.

Over to my first Tutorial.

A Memory Box

All of us have some small trinkets or things that are a part of some awesome memories. It maybe a small toy, an old bracelet or a broken earring for that matter.

But the memories they bring back are priceless.

Here is a memory box to hoard all these.

It can also be used as a Jewelry box or a Chocolate box for that matter.

Let's begin making this:

Take 2 cardboard pieces of size 4" x 6" and 1 piece of size 2" x 6".

Stick them on the back of a pattern paper, leaving gaps in between as shown.

Cover the top with another piece of the same pattern paper. While sticking, insert 1" thick matching coloured satin ribbon on either side, sandwiching it between them.

Score the gaps after sticking. This forms the base and top of the box.

Take 2 more pieces of cardboard of size 2" x 3.75" and 1 piece of 2" x 5.75".

Arrange them in a straight line leaving gaps in between and cover them with the same pattern paper. (Sorry I completely forgot to click this while arranging - but here's a hand-drawn sketch for it)

Score them to reinforce the folds. Arrange and stick them using liquid glue on the base of the box made earlier. Let dry.

The box is ready.

Now take a cardboard of size 4" x 3" to make the frame on top.  Cut a window of size 3" x 2" on this piece.(Refer sketch)

Cover it from all sides with the same pattern paper.

Stick strips of foam matching to the pattern paper from three sides leaving top side open, to insert the photograph. Adhere it to the top of the box.

The box is now ready for decoration. Here are some embellishments I gathered to decorate my box.

Here's the final look of the box.

Let's move onto our second tutorial

Name Art

Don't we all love things with our names on it..?? A Personalized gift that speaks "ME"!!

Here is a Name Art which can be used as a door hanger or a wall piece. It can also be used for the personalization of cupboards.

To begin, Draw/Trace the alphabet on a cardboard. Cut 2 pieces of the same and stick them together to make it stronger.

Cover the alphabet with a pattern paper from all the sides (as shown below)

Fold in all the sides so the edges are also covered.

The alphabet is now ready for decoration.

I have gathered all these embellishments/flowers for the decoration.

Try various arrangements to suit your idea.

Print the name with bold alphabets and cut each alphabet apart. Mount them with foam adhesive. Lastly, cover the alphabets with glossy accents. This gives them a shiny tile look and also protects the paper from damage.Tie a long twine at the top for hanging and add a bow to the twine.

Here's the final look
