Quick Card Tutorial by GDT Anila & GDT Khushboo

Hie guys! I'm here today with a very special and a little different post - a Quick tutorial on Quick Cards. And specially for this, we have two GDTs coming together to share with you a detailed tutorial for quick, yet beautiful cards.

Often times than not, we're so busy with life, that we rarely get time to create those special looking cards for the ones we love. Hence, Rainbow Craftykari and Maninder, came up with this super idea of showcasing a tutorial that encompasses some techniques that you can use for making cards in just a few minutes.

There will be a couple of cards with different techniques by me, Khushboo Gandhi, and another very talented GDT, Anila DK. Hope you guys enjoy this post as much as we enjoyed creating it for you. Can't wait to see how you put these techniques to use with your own twist on your projects!"

The following is the introduction for my cards:

"Let's begin with our first segment on quick cards in this series. As some of you must be aware, I LOVE colours! I love vibrancy and magical stuff. And I try to bring some of that spunk in my projects too. Quick cards don't always have to mean CAS style or a minimalistic style. I've come up with a couple of techniques that don't take very long to implement, ans the end result is really distinct and lively. So let's get on with our super pretty tutorial.


Colour Burst Mixed Media Card Tutorial #1

You will need:

White/off-white cardstock
Crackle paste
Ranger's alcohol inks
Vellum
Versafine Black ink pad
Sentiment stamp
Rhinestones


Directions:

1. Dimensions of the card: 5x4 inches
2. Take a white or an off-white cardstock, folded into the above dimensions.
3. Add crackle paste in the background, in whatever way you wish. It should look random and not in a set square or rectangle shape. That way, your card looks edgy and different.
4. Take alcohol inks in the colours of your choice and start squeezing a drop here and there (in-between spraying with water/alcohol).
5. Repeat step no. 4 till you are satisfied with the colour combinations and have covered almost the whole of your crackle base.
6. Take a piece of vellum for the sentiment. Stamp it with your sentiment stamp, and stick the vellum on top of the colourful crackle base. You can use any colour cardstock if you don't want to work with vellum. I've used it because I did not want that beautiful, colourful background to be hidden by the cardstock.
7. Embellish with rhinestones to add an elegant touch, and voila! your card is ready in just a few minutes

Make your own background and font (card #2)

You will need:

White/off-white cardstock
Colour sprays
Glitter
Butterfly stamp
Black ink pad

Quick Directions:

1. Fold the cardstock in the same way as for the above card.
2. Take a few color sprays and spray them on the cardstock. The spray should be concentrated on one point on the cardstock (so that you get the splotchy effect).
3. Take your card and let it drip out at one end to get rid of the extra spray color on your card. In doing so, you are allowing the colors to mix and get dragged to another end of your card (hence creating a random pattern as seen above).
4. Stamp a butterfly and add glitter on it. Curve it and stick it on the card.
5. I was a little bored of the pre-set sentiment stamps and fonts, and so I took my glitter bottle and stylized the sentiments myself for the words 'fly high'.

This is Anila Here, I am back again at the Rainbow Craftykari blog.

We come across various occasions for wishing our friends and family. One click on the smartphone and your wishes reach the person. 

In this age of Whatsapp and Facebook, we often forget the joy of sending greeting cards. The emotions you attach to a digital card is not felt as much as when you send out an actual card. This way the recipient feels and knows the love and efforts you have put in making the card and thus your wishes to them also become memorable. I think we all love receiving cards. 

Let us make few cards today and send them out to our family/friends.

Today in this post I am showing you three easy and quick cards, which you can make for your loved ones. The most important part here is that these cards are made with minimal supplies.  

Material list -

White cardstock

Black cardstock

Colourful cardstocks

Sentiment stamps

Foam adhesives

White Embossing powder (Optional)

Embossing folder (Optional)

Colorful sequins

Card 1

Directions:

1. I took a plain white cardstock of size 2.5" x 5.75".
2. Dry embossed this card panel through my bigshot using a cupcake embossing folder.
3. On a textured card base of 4"x6", I stuck a glitter washi tape such that when the embossed panel is mounted over the card base a part of this washi tape is seen from under.
4. On a white CS strip, I stamped the "Happy Birthday" sentiment. Mounted this on the card base with a little larger black strip underneath. 

(Note: - The embossed panel can easily be replaced by a pattern paper if you do not own an embossing machine or folder)

Card 2

Directions:

1. I took a white card panel of size 2.75" x 6". 
2. I mounted few colourful heart die-cuts as balloons on the panel.
3. With a black marker traced the strings for the heart balloons. 
4. Adhered this panel on a white card base.
5. Stamped the sentiment on a white strip and mounted it with foam adhesive.

(Note - The hearts can be easily hand-cut)

Card 3 

Directions:

1. For this card, I cut colorful strips and arranged them on the 4"x6" card base. 
2. I tried to maintain the color wheel concept. So first placed the primary colored strips and then overlapped them with the secondary colors. Stuck them in place. Trimmed off the extras. 
3. Next, I took a white card panel of size 4" x 5.5". Die-cut a heart shape on this panel. 
4. I mounted the negative panel with foam adhesive on the card base such that the heart cut-out overlooks the colorful strips. 
5. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder on a black strip. Adhered it with foam adhesive with a part of it overlapping the heart. 
6. Lastly, added few colored sequins to add some element to the card. 

(Note - The heart can be traced and cut with a carving knife.)

Wasn't it easy to make these cards? 

We all have these basic supplies lying in our house. And like I mentioned, the embossed panel can be replaced by pattern paper, the die-cuts can be replaced by hand cuts and the stamped sentiments too can be replaced by handwritten sentiments. 

Just imagine the joy of making such cards and sending them to your loved ones.

Watercolor Cards Tutorial by GDT Ria Banerjee

Hello all,

Ria on this side. Today, I have brought some watercolor cards for you people. I know sometimes people find it hard to do CAS cards. I have tried to explain everything step by step so that your inspirations can leave us in awe.

Project 1: Bleaching Watercolor

This is a technique which many of you may be afraid of attempting, but trust me this is super fun. (Check the Materials Pic below)

Cut a cardstock diagonally and ink with distress inks. Dark colors are preferable.
Let it dry or heat dry it.
 

Apply anti-static powder on it.

Now choose any stamp that has some good outlines. Here, I have taken Renee Leaves by Winnie and Walter. Stamp it with Versamark and apply clear embossing powder. Heat dry it completely using Heat Tool.

Take a pinch of bleaching powder with a little amount of water and apply it inside the stamped outlines with the help of a brush.

Give some time the bleaching powder to react. After that, Paste the cardstock with the bleached background on to a blank white notecard
 

I have finished the card with die cuts and sentiments from Sizzix Thinlits and Adorable Elephant by MFT respectively.

Here is another project inspired by the same technique.

PROJECT 2 : Watercolor and Embossing Folder

For this card,

I took the Geometric Embossing Folder and embossed the cardstock with the same in a bigshot machine.

Take a cardstock and color it with distress ink with some water. You can give an ombre look of any color. I have used three colors, Wilted violet, Blue sketch and Ocean reef/Mermaid lagoon as shown in the pic

I have colored the elephant with Artistry ink Aged stucco. I have dabbed some ink from the inkpad on the craft table, with the help of water and brush I have colored the image. One tip I would like to give that you have to be quick when coloring with distress inks as they leave some lines when get dried. The stamping has to be with Archival ink to prevent Blotting.

I have taken Gina Marie Circular Die to cut the panel. Preserve the cut out to use it for another card. Then paste the embossed cardstock on to a blank white notecard using any white glue of your choice.
In the end, I have stamped some more images, colored and fussy cut from Adorable Elephants from MFT. Adhered them on to the panel with the sentiment from the same set.

Hi everyone,

I am Anushree Vaish. Today I am really very excited to share this Guest Designer post for Rainbow Craftykari Blog. Thanks team for believing in me and giving me this awesome opportunity under Teaching and Learning program.

Lets get started, I have tried making this post detailed, informative and at the same time fun to try new tricks with same products. In this post I am using various stencils and Modelling paste in three different ways to create backgrounds for the cards on white cardstock.

 

My first background: I have used Crafter's Workshop Stencil Harlequinn, Modelling paste and Ranger Embossing powders to create this one (You can use any embossing powder of your choice). I have placed white cardstock below the stencil and used paper tape to fix it to my craft mat, this fixing is important as we don’t want the stencil to move while applying modelling paste to it. Once all set with fixing, I started applying modelling paste smoothly with the help of my painting knife, you can also use an old credit card/plastic card for smooth effect.

Once done with application of modelling paste, remove the tapes and stencil from the cardstock, now before it dries I have sprinkled gold embossing powder on some areas and dust off the extras, on the remaining areas of stenciled part I sprinkled pearl embossing powder, again dusting off extras as shown in pics. Now I have heat embossed the whole area with the help of my heat tool.

Awesome results,After this embossing powder melts along with modelling paste,the texture we get it super..its much thicker effect than using embossing powder with watermark ink.now I will start creating card with this background.I have used tacky glue (you can use any pva glue) to attach this background with base cardsheet. I have used vellum sheet and used same gold embossing powder now with watermark ink to create the sentiment. The final card will show in the end, till then keep reading.

Second background: This time I have mixed white acrylic color with modelling paste and applied over the stencil. Once the paste is dried, I have distressed the cardstock using three different colors.

 

 

Again I have used vellum sheet and hand cut the scalloped shape, This time for the sentiment I have used a die cut. Attached two same die cut to give volume to it.

Modelling paste generally dries off white color,this mixing of white acrylic has really enhanced the look of distressed portion as well. Stay tuned for how I have attached all these together, before that lets quickly see the third background as well.

Third background: With this one I have mixed distress ink with the modelling paste to make coloured modelling paste. after application of modelling paste, let it dry at room temperature. Modelling paste dries very fast.

The color looks really vibrant and beautiful, now for this card I have stamped the sentiment on white cardstock separately and fussy cut it. Also used few metal embellishments, made these flowers with die cuts and old novel pages after distressing them. Also I have used glossy accents to attach all this.

 

Now time to reveal my three beauties.
